Wilbur Perry Goff, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Wilbur was born on December 31, 1931 in Odum, Georgia to the late Nicholas Perry Goff and Beulah Aspinwall Goff Collins. In addition to his parents, his maternal grandparents, Ollie and Maude Jackson Aspinwall; paternal grandparents, Sam and Lilla McGauley Goff; wife of fifty years, Ruby Goff; his second wife of thirteen years, Barbara Goff and a brother-in-law, Graham Laidlaw all preceded him in death.
He spent his early years in Wayne County, graduated from Jesup High School, and joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country. Wilbur then took a job with the United States Postal Service from which he retired with many years of dedicated service. He was a kind hearted and gentle man who loved collecting things and not a year passed that he didn’t grow a garden so that he could share the vegetables with his friends and family.
Survivors include his two sisters, Marjorie Laidlaw of Jesup; Wilene Wingate and husband, Bobby of Jesup; niece and nephews, Philip Laidlaw of Tampa, Florida, Michael Laidlaw and wife, Heather, Leisa Fennel and husband, Rob and Rob Wingate and wife, Melissa all of Jesup; two step children, Diane Creach and Pat Stanley of Jacksonville, FL and aunt Sadie Russell. Numerous extended family members also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Varney Aspinwall officiating. Covid-19 precautionary measures will be in place.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the loving care that was provided to Wilbur by Gary Knight and the staff of Silver Shores Assisted Living in Jacksonville, a place he has called home for the past five years.
