Wendell Beecher Obituary

Wendell Beecher, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at home under the care of Heartland Hospice.

A resident of Jesup since 1955, Wendell was born on February 3, 1933 in Appling County to the late Vonice S. and Carlie C. Beecher. He worked over forty-one years as a lineman for Satilla REMC before his retirement in the early nineties. Wendell was active in his community and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jesup, the Jesup Elks Lodge, the Jesup Jaycees and the Wednesday Night Pond House Supper Club. He was meticulous and creative by nature and loved being outdoors. Wendell spent countless hours hunting and fishing and was known for the stories that he told. His first love was his family and he cherished every moment they spent together.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Nella B. Harrington preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Lina Meeks Beecher of Jesup; daughter and son-in-law, Candee and Nick Harris of Jesup; granddaughter and her husband, Erica and Ryan Madray of Odum; grandson, Nicholas Harris of Jesup; two sisters, Myrtle Jones of Jesup and Martha Simmons of Waynesville; sister-in-law, Peggy Hackel of Jesup; six nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and extended family members.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Jesup with the Reverend Dr. Michael VonMoss and the Reverend Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Herschell Hires, Len Lewis, Jerry Keith, Len Hauss, David Earl Keith and Sheriff John Carter.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wednesday Night Pond House Supper Club.

Remembrances may be made to First Baptist Church of Jesup, 185 S. Brunswick St. Jesup, GA 31546.
