Victor Franklin Salls, Sr., affectionately known by many family members as “Uncle Dick,” passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Savannah, Georgia under the care of GHC Hospice.
A resident of Jesup, Georgia for nearly six years, Victor was born on March 30, 1935 in Randolph, Vermont to the late Samuel and Grace Bradley Salls. He was a true jack of all trades who could do just about anything. Victor worked in several different factories manufacturing furniture and plywood during his career. Not being one to ever sit idle, after retirement he worked odd jobs, cleaning houses and collecting scrap metal to make extra money. He always had several projects going, whether it was working on cars, plumbing or carpentry work, Victor never stopped working. In his spare time, Victor enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with his beloved family. He was a baptized member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he truly enjoyed the preaching work of the church.
In addition to his parents, his infant sons, Christopher and Victor Anthony Salls and his brothers, Richard, James, Phillip, John, Hiram and Leonard and his sisters, Eliza Bruorton, Marjorie Templeton, Katebelle Shedrick and Fleda Brown all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Rita Bouchard Salls of Odum, Georgia; children by his former wife, Beth, Wanita Weeks of Colchester, Vermont, Douglas Salls, Sr. of Claremont, New Hampshire, Victor F. Salls, Jr. of Southington, Connecticut; children by his wife, Rita, Kerry Salls, Corey Salls of Georgia, Vermont, and Patrick (Salls) Routhier of St. Albans, Vermont; sister, Lillian Haley of Texas; grandchildren, Bryan and Marc Plant, Gabrielle and Kristopher Salls, Phillip Caldwell, Douglas Salls, Jr., Alisha, Maximilian, Nicole, Valencia and Avianna Salls, Savannah Curry, Marcel and Nathaniel Salls and Nevaeh Routhier and one great grandchild, Zavien Plant. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside services at Day Funeral Home, 4 Franklin St., Randolph, Vermont 05060. A gathering of family and friends will follow immediately at Grandma Salls old family homestead.
