Tommy Ben Poppell, 57, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by his loving family.
A resident of Jesup for the past thirty years and former resident of Sumter, South Carolina and McIntosh County, Tommy was born on June 13, 1963 in Hinesville to the late Tom and Marcella Ryals Poppell. He worked in the collision repair industry as a Body Tec for nearly forty five years, ending his career with B&C Collision Center in Screven. Tommy loved his country and his family. Spending time with the ones he loved was his favorite thing to do. They passed the days leisurely playing Corn Hole, four wheelin’ and mud boggin, but more than anything, just being together.
Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Tammy Poppell; daughters, Jessica Miller and husband, Timothy and Marcella Elder and husband, John; sons, Tom Poppell and wife, Samantha and Nicholas Poppell all of Jesup; sisters, Suzanne Dubose of Sumter, South Carolina and Sheila Howard of Crescent; brother, Rodney Poppell of Jesup and grandchildren, Layla Miller, Lily Elder, Tyler Manning, Katie Elder, Colton Miller, John Elder, Taelynn Miller and Tommy Poppell. A host of honorary grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2020 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Poppell Family Cemetery on Briar Branch Drive with Reverend Dwayne Bray officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie Howard, Corinthians Reed, Colby Reed, Joshua Poppell, David Mitchell, Jonathan Bray, Dillon Bray and Jonathan Bennett.
