Thomas Monroe McDaniel, 83, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 10th, surrounded by his loved ones. Monroe was born on December 21, 1939 to Ellis McDaniel and Myrtle McDaniel Rose in Turner County, GA.
After graduating from Sycamore High School, Monroe joined the Army and served in the Signal Corps from 1960 to 1980 when he retired as a Major. During his time in the service Monroe was stationed at multiple bases in the US and Europe as well as serving in Vietnam.
After retiring Monroe enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He traveled often to Turner County and Eatonton to visit with family, classmates and friends. Monroe was a member and deacon of Jesup Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Annette McDaniel. Together they have five children: Thomas McDaniel of Brunswick, Russ McDaniel (Tonya) of Caledonia, MS, Kristi McDaniel Blount of Brunswick, Jay Barrow (Kay) of Darien, Tyler Barrow (Dona) of Darien and eight grandchildren: Matt (McKenzie), Greg and Abbey McDaniel, Lauren and Ethan Blount and Ashley, Jenny and Cindy Barrow. He is survived by one sister, Barbara McDaniel Kendrick (W.C.), nephews, nieces, and cousins, and by a brother he gained in retirement: Frank Whitten (Joan) who is the best friend Monroe ever had.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Jesup Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Keith Tillman and Vernon Eckleberry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Private interment services will be held in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia at a later date.
