Thomas Dewitt Kinchen

Thomas Dewitt Kinchen, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

A resident of Wayne County for the past forty-two years and former resident of Tifton for twenty-five years, Thomas was born on January 18, 1929 in Lumber City, Georgia to the late Walter Thomas and Minnie Meade Kinchen.  Thomas farmed his entire life.  In his younger years, he worked as a welder for Kelley Manufacturing Company in Tifton before taking on farming full time, growing tobacco, corn, peanuts and cotton.  His work ethic was second to none.  At the age of eighty-three he was still operating a cotton picker and he operated a module builder until the age of ninety.  Thomas was a longtime member of the O’Quinn Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, his wife, Evelyn Ray Kinchen;  brother, James Dillon Kinchen and wife, Johnie; sisters, Doris Lynch and husband, Grady and Dorothy Partain and husband, John; sister-in-law, Nora Kinchen and daughter-in-law, Pam Kinchen, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Tom Kinchen  of Screven; daughter, Karen Harris and husband, Carl of Screven; brother, Walter Leon “Ras” Kinchen of Enigma, Georgia; five grandchildren, Chris Harris of Jesup, Kyle Harris and wife, Whitney of Mableton, Georgia, Ken Harris and wife, Katie of Screven, Cale Harris and wife, Melanie of Screven and Amanda Truelove and husband, Kyle of Clermont, Georgia and five great grandchildren, Kennedy, Houston, Samson, Koan and Zachary.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at O’Quinn Baptist Church with Reverend Gerald Greenlee  officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. 

Active pallbearers will be Chris, Kyle, Ken and Cale Harris, Kyle Truelove and Jeremy Godwin.
