Terry Franklin Sapp

Terry Franklin Sapp, 62, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2023 at home in the arms of his loving wife after a long and courageous battle with cancer. 

Terry was born on August 27, 1960 in Jesup to the late, Albert Lewis and Mattie Horton Sapp.  He began to learn the value of hard work at a young age by working with his father in the family painting and construction business.  After graduating from Wayne County High School in 1978, Terry continued his employment with his father, building houses and painting for several other local contractors.  In 1990, Terry began a second career with the Federal Correctional Institution, Jesup where he worked in the maintenance department as a Paint Foreman until his retirement in 2013.  While working at the prison, Terry continued his painting business in his spare time and after retirement began painting again full-time under a new business name, All About Paint.  Terry was well known for his painting ability and his attention to detail was second to none.  He loved his family and worked hard to ensure that they were well taken care of.  Terry loved the Lord and trusted Jesus to be his strength when times were tough.  He was raised in Bethlehem Baptist Church and was saved at the Hickory Street Church of God in 1990.  Terry was a member of Jesup Church of God for many years where he served on the Pastor’s Council, served as an usher and also taught Adult Sunday School for many years.  In his spare time, Terry enjoyed fishing and running.  He participated in numerous 5K runs and ran three miles per day six days a week.  He rose early in the morning every day to read the Bible and spend time in prayer. Terry was also skilled in the kitchen, he enjoyed cooking and had perfected a recipe for the old fashioned southern chocolate layer cake.    In addition to his parents, his brother,  Michael Lewis Sapp, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Angela “Angie” Thompson Sapp of Jesup; son, Andrew Lewis Sapp and wife, Haley of Birmingham, Alabama; two granddaughters lovingly referred to as “his two queens,” Eliana and Juliette and brother, Gregory Sapp and wife, Jessica of Garner, North Carolina.  Two aunts and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Jesup Church of God with Pastors, Scott Hatten and Andrew Sapp officiating. 

Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Jody Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Ronnie Ogden, Larry Sapp, Aaron Moncrief and Jim Pulos.  Honorary pallbearers will be Carey Hodges, Carl Rozier, Deen Westberry, Barry Brannen, Mark Westberry, Don Kelly, Denise Hockensmith, Shakira McGauley, Sarah Thompson, Krissy Rooks, Myron Anderson, Jennifer Reeder, David Barwick, Greg Sparks, Jimmy Hinson, Brenda Bacon, Mary James and Sonya Lee.
