Sylvia Smith

Sylvia Smith, 78, of Jesup, Georgia, formerly of Posen, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at home.

Sylvia was born on September 26, 1944 in Harvey Illinois, daughter of the late Stephen and Stephanie “Pat” Bielenin.  She was an avid animal lover.  Sylvia has raised various animals throughout her career including pigeons, chickens and birds to rabbits and goats.  She eventually followed her passion and founded Cherub Acres where she raised Pomeranians and Chihuahuas until her final days.  She was a member of the New Vision of New Life Church and truly loved dogs with all her heart.    In addition to her parents, her son, Thomas Smith and her sister, Shirley Scalia, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Laurie Zawisza and husband, Joe, Natasha Odom and husband, Daniel; her son, Robert Smith and fourteen grandchildren,  seven great grandchildren and one “soon to be” great grandchild.  A host of extended  family members and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Ryan Sweat officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
