Sue Henderson Westberry Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Harborview Healthcare Systems, Jesup surrounded by her loving family.
A lifelong resident of Jesup, Sue, who was affectionately known as Mimi by her beloved grandchildren, was born on April 7, 1942 in Alma, Georgia to the late R.H. and Pearl Tanner Henderson. Sue graduated from Jesup High School in the class of 1960 and worked as a beautician for many years while she was younger. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who gave herself unselfishly to those she loved the most, her family. Sue was a member of the Jesup Church of God for fifty plus years where she faithfully served in many different capacities including Sunday School Teacher for elementary aged students. In her spare time, Sue enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading and cooking. She was known for baking the most delicious ten layer chocolate cakes and she was always proud of the divinity she made during the holiday season. Sue was generous and always compassionate towards others, putting their needs before her own. In addition to her parents, Mrs Smith is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Henderson; first husband, David Westberry; sister-in-law and husband, Daisy (Buck) Bishop, and brothers-in-law, David Gasque and Lindsay Jones.
Survivors include her husband of twenty-six years, Charles Bryan Smith; four daughters, Melissa Arnold (Lynn), Cindy Blanton (Ricky), Lori Fowler (Lee) and Vicki Thompson (Bill); sister, Melinda Crews; grandchildren, Lyndsey Skinner (Weston), Jody Arnold (Haley), Hamp Blanton (Page), Tyler Blanton (Hannah), Philip Talarino, IV, Caleb Fowler (Noel), Calyn Bishop (Bubba), Caitlyn Foster (Blake), Blake Thompson and Tori Thompson Sferra (Anthony) and sisters-in-law, Gertrude Collins (Will), Annette Smith (Wally), Janette Jones, Dianne Gasque and Dale Bowen (Ernie). Twelve great grandchildren also survive with another on the way in July in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Jesup Church of God with Pastors Scott Hatten and Calvin Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jody Arnold, Hamp Blanton, Tyler Blanton, Caleb Fowler, Rowan Blanton and Brody Skinner.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd. Jesup, GA 31545.
