Sidney B. Strickland, 78, passed away June 9, 2021 at home under the care of GHC Hospice.
Sidney was born to the late Sid and Jewell Landon Strickland in November of 1942. He worked as trucker over the road for many years until he got into the logging business with his sons. Together they operated Four S Logging before he branched out and opened his own trucking company, B Trucking, which he ran for many years. Sidney was a member of Unity Church of God and loved hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather William H. “Pomp” Strickland; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Freddie Miller, brother-in-law, Donnie May and a son-in-law, Franklin E. Patrick.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Charlene Holloway Strickland; three sons, Allen Strickland(Katie), Mitchell Strickland (Valerie) and Darren “Block” Strickland; two daughters, Robin S. Patrick and Lisa Dukes (Allen) all of Odum; siblings, Lorine Boyd (Allen) of Odum, Linda May of Jesup, Shannon Strickland (Debra) of Jesup and Gwen Morris (Terry) of Lineville, Alabama. He was proudest of his children but the light of his life was his nine grandchildren, Michelle, Samantha, Sarah, Mary Beth, Will, Eli, Hartley, Jacob and Rebecca and his seven great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Keaton, Zack, Gage, Karson and Brody. His beloved Aunt Gennie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverends Calvin Anderson and Jimmy Lord officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Odum City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Nick Spearmon, Robbie Finch, Greg Jernigan, Heath Wynn, Johnny Brown and Paul Stephens. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Norman and Doug Miller, Kevin and Keith Poppell, Allen Boyd, Jr., Anthony O’Quinn and Aaron Rollins and Caleb Holloway.
