Shirley Ann (McGauley) Walker

Shirley A. McGauley Walker, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of GHC Hospice.

A resident of Wayne County for most of her life and former resident of Cross Plains, Texas for a short time and Hinesville for twenty-five years, Shirley was born on March 4, 1952 to the late, James Theron McGauley and Fannie Pearl Manuel McGauley.  She worked as a custodian, cook and waitress for most of her life and enjoyed music, the beach and playing golf with her late husband.  Shirley was “spunky,” and full of life.  She never met a stranger and was known to speak her mind at all times.  In addition to her parents, her husband, Richard Paul Walker; son, Charlie James Driggers and sister, Linda Jean Davis, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two children, Jesse Driggers and wife, Monica of Screven and Rose Daniels and husband, Aron of Odum; siblings, James C. McGauley of Jesup, Betty Ricks and husband, M.L.  of Blackshear, Brenda Westberry and husband, Joseph of Gardi, Joanna Renfroe of Orlando, Florida, Tammie Graham and husband, Richard of Jesup, Raymond McGauley and wife, Deanna of Jesup and Travis McGauley and wife, Alicia of Sylvester, Georgia; grandchildren, Charity McGee and husband, Taylor of Screven, Briana Mullineaux and husband, Brandon of Odum, Luke Daniels of Odum, Matthew Daniels and wife, Cobi of Odum, Richard Driggers and wife, Brittany, Autumn O’Quinn and husband, Hagan of Screven and Chelsea Driggers and Angel Driggers, both of Screven.  Fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Dale Bange officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Bethesda Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Driggers, Hagan O’Quinn, Luke Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Brandon Mullineaux and Taylor McGee.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of GHC Hospice.

The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers, Linda Clark and Brenda Breed for the extra special loving care that was given to Shirley during her final days.
