Roger Dean Sauers, 69, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Memorial Health University in Savannah after a long illness.
A resident of Jesup for the past twenty years, Roger was born on December 19, 1950 in the District of Columbia to the late, Leon and Elizabeth Smith Sauers. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a handyman most of his life. There weren’t many things Roger couldn’t fix and he enjoyed fishing in his spare time. In his younger years, he also loved hunting and swimming. Roger will be remembered fondly for his selfless nature and his love of family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his brothers and sisters, Patty Sauers, Jean Shields, Leon Sauers, Kurt Sauers, Elsie Sauers and his infant sister, Barbara Sauers all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his longtime companion of twenty-six years and fiancé, Janie Wiles of Jesup; four children, Lisa Graham and husband, Ethan of Screven, Brittany Slone of Screven, Roger Sauers , Jr. and wife, Kaitlyn of Jesup and Michael Flake of North Carolina and grandchildren, Aiden, Jase, Lily, Elizabeth, Elijah and Selina. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
