Ralph Eugene Swailes

Ralph Eugene Swailes, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2024 at home under the care of GHC Hospice.

A resident of Jesup for more than fifteen years, Ralph was born on September 17, 1952 to the late Eugene Alfred and Alberta Hayes Swailes.  After high school, he served his country in the United States Army before returning home and beginning his work as a millwright.  He worked hard and was well respected by his brothers in the Local 256 Carpenters and Millwrights Union.  Ralph had a giving spirit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend in need.  He was a longtime member of Altamaha Baptist Church in Jesup and enjoyed fishing in his spare time.  In addition to his parents, his first wife, Dea Brown Swailes; his brothers, Jimmy and Randy Swailes; his sister, Elizabeth Fries and his grandson, Kelan Brake, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Horton Swailes of Jesup; two sons, Steven Swailes and wife, Christin of Guyton and Jason Barnwell and fiancé, Shann Boatright of Millen; a daughter, Joy Swailes; stepdaughter, Kellie Brake and husband, Austin of Jesup; sister, Tina Evans of Warner Robbins; two brothers, W.C. Swailes and wife, Paula of Rincon and Harold Swailes and wife, Ming of Bloomingdale and grandchildren, Amanda, Haylee,  Kaceley, Cayson and Kinley great grandchildren,  Cassia, Kiy, Mina, MaKenna, Silas and Kennedy.   Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Altamaha Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Richardson officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the service at the church.

Interment services will be 3:00 p.m. at North Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Port Wentworth.
