Ralph Bacon, 93, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at home under the care of Georgia Hospice Care.
A resident of Jesup for over thirty years and a former resident of Hinesville, Ralph was born on June 6, 1925 in Pembroke to the late Leroy and Bessie Bacon. He served in the Merchant Marines for seven years in the early forties and worked numerous odd jobs before beginning a long time career with civil service on Fort Stewart from which he eventually retired. Ralph also owned and operated Southern Carpet Service and Home Inspection Service for many years. Later in life, after retirement, he worked part time at Harris ACE Hardware in Jesup and volunteered his time with the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. He was a former member of the Hinesville First United Methodist Church and had been attending Calvary Baptist Church most recently. Ralph was blessed with a strong work ethic and enjoyed helping people more than anything else. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, his wife of fifty years, Mildred P. Bacon and his sister, Frieda Stanford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Brenda Orr and husband, Doug of New Mexico, Chris Bacon and companion, LuAnn of Cocoa Beach, FL, Mark Bacon and wife, Cindy of Screven and Marlene Jelks and husband, David of Riceboro; brother, Freeman Bacon of Jesup; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with the Reverend Tom Gardener and Jack Denmark officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the Hinesville Cemetery
Remembrances may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Florida 33607.
Honorary pallbearers will be staff members of Georgia Hospice Care.
