Phillip Mark "Country" Bacon, Jr.

Phillip Mark Bacon, Jr., 38, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Country,” passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at home.

A resident of Baxley and Jesup for most of his life, Phillip was born on September 18, 1984 in Conroe, Texas.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps as an Apache Helicopter Mechanic for several years before returning home where he worked in construction and HVAC.   Phillip was always smiling and joking around.  He was soft hearted and loved people.  In return, they loved him back.  He was strong willed and stubborn when he wanted to be but would give anything to help a friend in need.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with the ones he loved.

His paternal grandparents, Ralph and Mildred Bacon, and his aunt, Debbie Deen, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Mark and Cindy Bacon of Screven; mother, Carla Thomas and fiancé , Richard Kamppi of Bloomingdale; siblings, Rebecca Chancey of Bloomingdale, Tyler Thomas of Baxley, Ronnie Kamppi of Bloomingdale, Tyler Moseley and wife, Brittany of Screven and Amy Smith and husband, Blake of Screven; maternal grandparents, Carl and Helen Scarborough of Odum; maternal grandparents, Pete and Lynda Lastinger of Jesup; uncles, Carl Scarborough and wife, Vicki of Odum,  Nathan Scarborough and wife, Amy of Odum and David Lastinger and wife, Crystal of Jesup; aunt, Marlene Jelks and husband, David of Riceboro; former companion of nearly ten years, Kendra Drury;  special friend who was like a second mother, Janice Spell; a special friend and companion, Tasha Blanton, nieces and nephews, Tessa, Dustyn and Matthew King, Fayth Thomas, Mason and Kinsey Moseley and Poppie and Easton Smith.  A host of extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with Joey Scarborough and Pastor Bob Richardson officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dustin King, Brent Messer, Phil Kay, Matthew King, Tyler Moseley and Joey Scarborough.

Honorary pallbearers will be Breagan, Jayden and Koralyn Drury, Alicia Hall, Kyle Perry, Kristy and Dave Wilson, Ken Kamppi and Jordan Haglee.
