Lina Meeks Beecher, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2025 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by her loving family.
A resident of Jesup since 1955, Lina was born on November 2, 1934 in Nicholls, Georgia to the late, Walter Daniel Meeks and Earnestine Griswold Meeks. She worked several jobs throughout her life, eventually retiring from the DOT District Office in 1996 after many years of employment. Lina was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church, Jesup where she sang in the choir for many years and attended the Harmony Sunday School Class. She was also a former member of the Jesup Jaycettes and participated in the Jesup Jollies productions. In her spare time, Lina enjoyed reading books, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren. Lina and her late husband traveled extensively after retirement, all over the United States, including destinations in Hawaii and Alaska. She was always a social butterfly and a ray of sunshine to all her family and friends. In addition to her parents, her husband, Wendell Beecher; sisters, Peggy Meeks Hackel and Gloria Meeks and brother, Walter Drexel Meeks, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Candee Beecher Harris and husband, Nick of Jesup; grandchildren, Erica Harris Madray and husband, Ryan of Jesup and Nicholas Beecher Harris of St. Simons Island and great grandchildren, Charlee and Canon Madray. A host of extended family members also survive along with her beloved caregivers who became special friends, Christi Jones, Valerie Kenny and Susan Kennedy.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025 at First Baptist Church, Jesup with Rev. Brooks Haddock officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
Private interment services will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Barnhill, Ryan Madray, Nicholas Harris and Bradley Barrett.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Staff members of Hospice of South Georgia for all the extra special loving care extended to Mrs. Lina during her final days. You all went above and beyond the call of duty and we are most appreciative.
