Lillian Flowers Obituary

Lillian Lavern Flowers, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at home after a brief illness.

“Lil” or “Aunt Lil” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was born on December 16, 1950 in Hortense, Georgia to the late Lee Ross and Onie Sloan Flowers.  She lived in Milledgeville for nearly thirty-three years where she worked for Rheem Manufacturing, serving in various positions within the company before her retirement after more than thirty years of service.  Lil always had a servant’s heart and cared deeply for the less fortunate.  While living in Milledgeville, she attended Victory Baptist Church and also began to visit the veterans living in the Georgia War Veteran’s Home in her spare time.  Lil saw a need and her call to ministry began as she made weekly visits to those living in nursing homes.  After relocating back to Hortense, Lil underwent the training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and began working at Bayview Nursing Home.  She worked there several years until her health forced her retirement but she never stopped her weekly visits to see her friends who had become more like family.  Lil was a faithful servant of God at the Hortense Church of God of Prophecy where she volunteered her skills in any way she could, working until her final days to make sure everything was the best that it could possibly be for her church family.  She was loving, caring, generous and always willing to lend a helping hand.  In addition to her parents, her brothers, Ronald, Harvey, Elbert and Lawrence “Charlie” Flowers and sisters, Linda Flowers Morgan and Frances Flowers Keen, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her brothers, Lloyd Flowers and wife, Sheryn of Hortense, Howard Flowers of Thalmann, Ross Flowers and wife, Janet and Wendell Flowers all of Hortense, sister, Pat Oglesby and husband, Gene of Hortense and special nieces and nephews who became her own children, Chris Flowers and wife, Amy and Rhonda Thomas and husband, Rick all of Hortense and Sonya Farrell and husband, Richard of Waynesville.  A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive as well as her lifelong friends who became known as her adopted sisters, Ruth Grimes, Novis Roberson, Sarah Strickland and Phyllis Ashby.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Hortense Church of God of Prophecy.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Hortense Church of God of Prophecy with Reverends, Rob Hutto, Ricky Knox and Danny Stilwell officiating.

Interment will follow in Hortense City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Rocky Flowers, B.J. Flowers, Aaron Thomas, Shannon Flowers, Jerrin Flowers and Bryson Flowers.  Honorary pallbearers will be staff members and residents of Bayview Nursing Home and staff members of Amedisys Home Health Care.
