Judy Viola Ammons Mendez, 66, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at home.
A resident of Screven for more than thirty years, Judy was born on December 10, 1954 in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late, John and Esther Buffer Ammons. She was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to her family and worked tirelessly to make their house a home. Judy loved shopping, especially from home, and socializing with her friends and family. She was known to talk on the phone for hours sometimes and may have been responsible for talking a few “ears off.” Her caring spirit didn’t stop with her family, she was a long time member of the Screven Church of God and she loved animals of all kinds, especially her canine companions.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Geraldo Lobo Mendez; and her siblings, Florene Anderson, Betty Jean Trogdon, Henry Ammons, Tina Luke and Darlene Hulett all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Michael Bennett of Jesup; siblings, Julius “Doodle” Ammons of Clarksville, TN, Vernon Ammons of Lakeland, FL and Linda Andrews of Cleveland, TN and grandchildren, April Sweat, Michael Sweat, Kayden Bennett and Bentley Bennett all of Jesup. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 with Funeral services beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating.
Private interment will be in Screven City Cemetery.
