Joyce Perkins Quick, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by her loving family.
A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Joyce was born on May 5, 1938 to the late Leonard and Quinelle Trull Perkins. She was an English teacher in the Wayne County School System for over twenty-eight years, having taught at Wayne County Junior High and Wayne County High School. Joyce was a member of the Wayne County Retired Educators and was longtime active member of the Odum Baptist Church where she served in many different capacities over the years including, Sunday school teacher, treasurer and children’s church director. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling. She was blessed with a servant’s heart and had the sweetest spirit, making her an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted herself to her family with unconditional love and treasured the time they spent together.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joe Wheeler Quick; her son, Alan Quick and her sister, Dorothy Mallard all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Quick Browning, Latrisa Quick Brewer and husband, Mitchell and Bonnie Quick Gordon and husband, Mike all of Odum; step daughter, Angie McElman of Jonesboro, GA; sisters, Greta Vinson of Macon and Melba Stephens and husband, Donald of Odum; brother, Eddie Perkins and wife, Susie of Jesup; grandchildren, Adrienne Browning of Brunswick, Rachael Ludwig and husband, James of Hahira, GA, Andrea Browning of Brunswick, Liana Jackson and husband, Keith of St. Cloud, FL, Garrett Brewer of Statesboro, Tommy Davis of Jonesboro, GA and Chris Gordon and wife, Amy of Jesup; great grandchildren, Peyton and Max Ludwig and Haze and Renz Gordon. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Odum Baptist Church with Reverend Vann Dempsey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Fenn, Chamois Campbell, Gordy Campbell, Brooks Mallard, James Perkins, Dell Stephens, and Dwaine Mallard.
Over the last five years, Mrs. Quick’s caregivers have been extraordinary: they have been fiercely loyal, dependable and have sacrificed much to spend long hours meeting every need.
