Joseph Edward Thornton, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Harborview Healthcare in Blackshear after a lengthy illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, Joseph was born on April 4, 1939 to the late Lawton and Mae Griffin Thornton. He worked in the logging business and was a true “jack of all trades.” Whether it was mechanic work, building things or plumbing, it truly seemed like there was nothing Joe couldn’t do. He loved children and always had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his sisters, Barbara Mobley, Betty Guy, Margaret Roberts and his brothers, Roy Thornton, Gilbert Thornton, Gustene Thornton and James Thornton, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Cynthia Thornton of Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Graveside funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 in Offerman Cemetery with Reverend Dale Bange officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the services at the cemetery.
