John Duncan Hume, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Bethany Home Nursing Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.
A longtime resident of Saint Simons Island and resident of McRae for the past five years, John was born on November 10, 1951 in Niagara Falls, New York to the late Will and Elinor Zobel Hume. The family relocated when John was just a boy and he spent his formative years in Portland, Oregon before relocating again to Saint Simons when he was eighteen. John owned and operated his own construction business for many years, Hume Construction, building many homes on Saint Simons Island and the surrounding areas. In his spare time, John loved bowling. He bowled regularly in a league on Monday nights in Brunswick. John was also a lover of cats, an avid reader and had been certified in scuba diving.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Walker of McRae, Georgia; son, Matthew Duncan Hume of Brownsville, Texas; daughter, Amanda Joan Hume of Hortense, Georgia; grandchildren, Ty Hume of Hortense, Georgia, Tala Gonzales of Texas and Sadie Dabila of Hortense, Georgia and two sisters, JoAnn Shakon and Jackie Hilyard, both of Oregon.
