Jimmy Leonard “Jim” Thorne, 72, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
A resident of Jesup for the past twelve years and a former resident of Thomaston, Brunswick and Savannah, Jim was born on March 30, 1949 in Savannah to the late Julian Frederick and Helen Sullivan Thorne. He worked as a carpenter in his younger years before beginning a career as an over the road truck driver which he worked for many years until taking a job as a school bus driver with the Wayne County School System. Jimmy was a longtime member of the Providence Worship Center and he loved preaching and talking about the Lord to anyone who would listen. His favorite times were spent with his beloved children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Jackie Thorne, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Robyn Lambert Thorne of Jesup; daughters, Jamie Goggins and husband, Randy of Thomaston, Laurie Thorne of Thomaston and Nikki Thorne of Brunswick; grandchildren, Kelsey, Harley, Emily and Bridgett; brothers, Bobby Thorne of Sylvania and Julian Thorne and wife, Barbara of Savannah; sister-in-law, Donna Thorne of Sylvania; stepchildren, Emily Morash of Jesup; Erin Lloyd of Brunswick, Cliff Morash of Columbia, SC and Connor Morash of Columbia, SC and step grandchildren, Jonathan, Kaitlyn and Jacob. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Upson Memorial Gardens in Thomaston.
