Jessica was born on April 19, 1993 in Muscatine, Iowa. She was baptized in 1997 and confirmed in the Winfield Presbyterian Church in 2007.
As a child, she developed a great love of horses. While learning to ride and with many years of experience, Jessica really “had a way” with horses. She participated in 4-H for eight years, winning High Point at Henry County Fair with her horse “Shady”, and Miss Congeniality in the Fair Queen contest was also a highlight. Jessica also participated in speech all four years of her High School career.
After graduation from Winfield-Mt. Union Community School, she enlisted in the United States Army where she proudly served her country in several different duty stations including military installations in Missouri, Georgia and Germany, and a resident of Southeast Georgia for the past ten years.
Jessica was known for her positive energy and the way she “lit up” a room when she entered.
Jessica will be deeply missed by her daughter, Freyja Alvarez of Clarksville, TN; mother and father, Larry and Patti Gerling of Winfield, IA; sister, Natalie Nott and husband, JR of Muscatine, IA; brothers, Saul Gerling of Amarillo, TX and Jon Gerling and wife, Gladys of Burleson, TX; maternal grandfather, Keith Carey of Columbus Junction, IA, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.
Jessica was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Katherine Carey, and paternal grandparents Melvin and Jean Gerling, and step-grandmother Helen Gerling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Gerling Family. Condolences can be sent to 2224 120th Street, Winfield, IA 52659.
