Janelle Hudson Bishop

Janelle Hudson Bishop, 83, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Janelle was born on October 22, 1938 in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late Daniel and Leila Crosby Hudson.  She and her late husband moved around quite frequently as he worked for CSX Railroad before settling in Jesup nearly fifty years ago.  She worked as a paraprofessional for many years with the Wayne County School System and also offered home child care.  Janelle was an active member of First Baptist Church, Jesup for nearly fifty years where she attended the Harmony Sunday School Class.  In her spare time, Janelle enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking and cooking.  She was thrifty and always enjoyed taking care of others, placing their needs before her own.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Fletcher Bishop; son, Hal Bishop; two brothers, Clyde and Clarence Hudson and three sisters, Ruth Altman, Thelma Padgett and Helen Mixson, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two sons, Dwight Bishop and wife, Ann and Wally and Angie Bishop all of Jesup; four sisters, Joan Bishop of Early Branch, SC, Ethylean Fisk and husband, Marshall of Pawley’s Island, SC, Cathryn Whittington of Varnville, SC and Pearl Malphrus of Bluffton, SC; one brother, Danny Hudson and wife, Pat of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren, Jeff Bishop and wife, Caroline of Jesup, Russell Bishop of Screven, Travis Bishop and wife, Deanna of Jesup and Matthew Bishop and wife, Sheila of Brunswick and three great grandchildren, Katy Bishop, Hailey Bishop and Foster Grey Bishop.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Jesup with Dr. Michael VonMoss officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment will follow in Sunset Oaks Memorials.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff, Russell, Travis, Matthew and Tommy Bishop.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Harmony Sunday School Class.
