James Leion Westberry, 73, affectionately known by his friends and family as “J.L.” passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of Wayne County, J.L. was born on August 9, 1947 to the late Leion and Georgia Ann Turner Westberry. He was employed for a short time by the City of Jesup in his younger years before he began working in the small engine repair business. Throughout his career, he worked at Sapp’s Saw Shop, Hinesville Saw Shop, which he owned for several years, and Jesup Mower Shop. J.L. was a long time member of Victory Tabernacle Church of God and loved coon hunting more than just about anything. In addition to his parents, his brother-in-law, Alvin Manning, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of nineteen years, Linda Westberry of Jesup; two children, Teresa Wilson and husband, Matthew of Jesup and Mike Westberry and wife, Emmy of Jesup; siblings, Ann Manning, Larry Westberry and wife, Darlene and Susie Daniels and husband, Bobby all of Jesup and Jeff Westberry and wife, Cheryl of Screven; grandchildren, Mark Wilson and wife, Lanie, Lori Herrin and husband, Brett, Kyle Westberry and wife, Krysten and Luke Wilson and great grandchildren, Kyler, Gracie, Heath, Jovi, Liam, Konway, Bodhi, Rhett and Reign. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverends Keith Lairsey and Charles Hinson, III officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment services will be held privately at Gardi Cemetery.
