James Mitchell "Mitch" McMichael

James Mitchell “Mitch” McMichael, 56, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 in Appling County Hospital after an extended illness.

A Wayne County resident for most of his life, Mitch was born on November 25, 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was a painter by trade who enjoyed fishing and watching football in his spare time.  Mitch loved life, he loved taking the backroads and he loved deeply.  His family was first and foremost in his life and he truly cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.

His mother, Vivian Virginia Hodge; son, Justin Lambert; brother, Greg McMichael; longtime companion, Michelle Manning and niece, Carrie Hardee, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Hutchinson and husband, Zach of Jesup and Kendra Todd of K’Ville; step sons, Spencer Sellers of Woodbine and Tyler Manning of Jesup; former spouse and lifelong friend, Lynn Todd of Screven; brother, Rodney Pinyan and wife, Janet of Screven; sister, Jane Redd of Alabama; grandchildren, Tucker and Callie Hutchinson and Braegan, Jayden and Koralyn Drury and companion, Jennifer Crews.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Dickie Waters officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie and Bobby Metts, Nelson Wasdin, Eugene Hardison, Jamie McReady, Greg Hughes and Mony Tomberlin.
