James Robert Keene

James Robert “PeeWee” Keene, 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at home under the care of Your Family Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

A resident of Jesup for the past several years and former resident of Blackshear for most of his life, James was born on December 23, 1946 in Waverly, Georgia to the late Osgood and Inez King Keene.  He worked for the Road Department in Camden County for most of his life and enjoyed raising cows, hog hunting and spending time with his family and friends when he wasn’t working.  In addition to his parents, his wife, Vernie Sue Keene; son, Robert Spradley and siblings, Barbara Keene Spradley, Franklin Keene and Margaret Richardson, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his five children, Rebecca Barnett and husband, Frankie of Blackshear, Amanda Grover and husband, Seymour of Browntown, John Keene of Jesup, Gerald Keene of Blackshear and Daniel Keene and wife, Tonya of Camden County; two sisters, Hilda Belanger of Adkinson and Linda Smith and husband, Wayne of Blackshear and one brother, Roy Keene and wife, Pauline of Waverly.  A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Private memorial services will be held.
