Hazel Carter Bullock

Hazel Carter Bullock, 88, of Screven, Ga, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday April 20th 2025, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born and raised in Wayne County, GA, to the late Elra Carter and Rebecca Nettles Carter. Hazel was a member of Jesup Church of God. She was instrumental in creating the Jesup High School band and was the first drum majorette as well as the first person to twirl a fire baton in Jesup. After being a housewife for many years and a wonderful mother, she went to college and earned her business administration degree. With this degree, Hazel was a nursing home administrator for 30-plus years.

In addition to her parents, three sons, Ricky Griffis, Jim Albritton, and Carter Bullock, and one granddaughter, Dara Jo Wasdin, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Pam and Darrell Wasdin, Tony and Debbie Griffis, and Judy Griffis. Her grandchildren, Jason Wasdin, Andrew Griffis, Anthony Griffis, Bryan Griffis, Jessica Wood, Jennifer Priester, Jerome Dowling, Danielle Folker, Joe Griffis, Cody Griffis, Sky Carpender, and Ganten Bullock, and twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 

As requested, a private service was held by the family. The family would like to express and special thanks to Hospice of South Georgia for their loving care and Scott Hatten who presided over the services. 

Her grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
