Glen Strobl Obituary

Glen Joseph Strobl, 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Memorial Health University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

Glen was born on December 4, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frank Strobl and Rose Denemark Strobl.  He spent his early years in Chicago before relocating with his family to Tupelo, Mississippi where he graduated from Tupelo High School in 1976.  Glen continued his education at the University of Mississippi, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1981.  During his collegiate career, Glen joined the National Guard and the ROTC program on campus at Ole Miss.  Shortly after graduation, he was commissioned as an Armor Officer where he served his country proudly as a Recon Scout and Tank Platoon Leader in the 2nd Battalion, 70th Armored Regiment rising to position of Executive Officer in D Company.  After active duty, Glen continued to serve in the National Guard and retired with over twenty years of service. Later, he worked as an insurance adjuster for several different companies throughout his career eventually retiring from Georgia Farm Bureau several years ago.

Glen was a man of faith.  He incorporated the principals of Christianity in his daily life by praying regularly and doing good deeds for others.  Glen was a member of Chevis Oaks Baptist Church and a former member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.  In his spare time, Glen enjoyed politics, military history, reading, shooting, hunting and watching movies.  He was funny, yet steadfast and he truly enjoyed the time he spent with his beloved family.  In addition to his parents, his brother, Dan Strobl, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of forty years, Marsha Chestnutt Strobl of Savannah; one daughter, Marissa Bryan and husband Christopher of Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister, Cynthia Freeland and husband Hale of Oxford, Mississippi and four grandchildren, Tristan, Charlotte, Oliver and Ethan.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Jones Creek Baptist Church in Ludowici with Rev. Kyle Waddell officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors rendered by the United States Army.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Chestnutt, Christopher Bryan, Kyle Howell, Tyler Jenkins, Brent Howell and Michael Brannen.
