Geraldine "Gerri" Beasley Smith

Geraldine “Gerri” Beasley Smith, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah surrounded by her loving family.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Gerri was born on November 16, 1939 to the late Homer E. and Lula Mae Durden Beasley.  She devoted herself to her family unselfishly, whether she was working in the family business in her younger years, cooking for everybody or rocking babies, Gerri was a perfect example of what a “mama and grandma” should be.  Gerri was an active member of the Parkway Church of God where she regularly sang special music during worship services.  She was an old school prayer warrior who got results when she prayed and loved witnessing to others and telling them about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Her spare time was spent gardening, cooking, eating, fishing and sitting around the campfire with the ones she loved the most.  In addition to her parents, her sister, Eula Mae Herndon; brothers, Charlie and Roy Lee Beasley and grandchildren, Pamela “Dee” Oglesbee and Lee Solomon all preceded her in death.       

Survivors include her children, Joy Lynn of Jesup, Brenda Peabody and husband, Tim of Statesboro, Hymie “Bubba” Smith of Ludowici, Cynthia Griffis and husband, Chris of Odum, John Smith of Ludowici, Robert Smith of Jesup, Teresa McCrary and companion, Jeffrey DeSimone of Ludowici, Raquel McGinnis and husband, Larry of Ft. Payne, Alabama and Tina Stephens and husband, Paul of Jesup and her sister, Mary Ann Edge and husband, W.T. of Vidalia.  A host of grand and great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Parkway Church of God with Reverends Bill Harper, Rita Harper, Don McCrary and Kenny Edge officiating.

Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Duncan, Robert Smith, Jr., Jordan McGinnis, Larry McGinnis, Keldon McCrary, Ryan Wilkerson, Trevor Oglesbee and Dawson Duncan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence, Chuck and Delma Moseley, Gene Lane, John Bollinger, Barry Arem, Beverly Zeagler, Sean Zeagler, Josh Ivey, Gene Ivey, Donna Harper, Marsha Chadwick, Ida Mae Curry, Lewis Wilkins and all members of Parkway Church of God.
