George Michael Hill

George Michael Hill, 74, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A resident of Jesup since 1978, Mike was born on December 8, 1950 in Tifton to the late William Denny Hill, Sr. and Grace Maudine Nipper Hill.  He and his family relocated to Waycross when Mike was young and he lived most of his early years there before moving to St. Simons Island, where he worked as a cabinet maker for many years with South Georgia Millworks.  While living there, Mike met and married the love of his life in 1975. The two soon relocated to Jesup and Mike took a position at Rayonier where he worked until his retirement.  He was a longtime member of Jesup Primitive Baptist Church.  In his spare time, Mike enjoyed building projects, frying fish, and piddling in his shop.  He was a true master carpenter and his attention to detail was second to none.  Mike truly could build anything he put his mind to.  He also loved music, having played guitar for most of his life, fishing and watching the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.  Mike enjoyed life and he loved to joke around and have fun with his beloved friends and family.  In addition to his parents, his brother, Gregory Webster Hill, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Pam Wommack Hill of Jesup; two daughters, Amy Hill Weaver of Athens and Emily Reagin Hill of Jesup; one brother, William Denny Hill, Jr. and wife, Fredia of Blackshear; one sister, Diane Rowe, of Blackshear, and three grandchildren, Bracken and Koen Murphy of Jesup and Anniston Weaver of Athens.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Elder Keith Tillman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Webster Hill, Glenn Rowe, Will Hill, Russ Wilcher, Patrick Hill, and Johnny Nipper.
