Janice Gail Wasdin, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Hospice of South Georgia after an extended illness.
A resident of Jesup for the past twenty-five years, Gail was born on February 11, 1937 in Bristol, Georgia to the late, Clyde and Jeannette Quinby Wasdin. She spent her early years in Screven and graduated from Screven High School in the class of 1954. Gail continued her education at South Georgia College in Douglas before moving to Atlanta where she lived most of her life. She was known for having exquisite taste and had worked as an interior decorator and fashion model in her younger years. Gail was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Austell before relocating to Jesup where she joined First United Methodist Church and became an active member. Gail was always highly involved in the church and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She also volunteered her time with the Animal Refuge Foundation (ARF) of Jesup because she adored all of God’s creation. Gail devoted herself to the care of animals and other people and she always placed their needs before her own. She cherished the time she spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Jordan of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Andrew Lockwood of Dania Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Lucas and Jessica Jordan; one sister, Chotsy Waites of Decatur, Georgia and nephew Adam Waites, his wife Olivia and daughter, Lexi. Plus, numerous extended family members also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Screven City Cemetery with Reverend Garth Duke-Barton officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the services.
