Gabriel Hugh Gilchrist

Gabriel Hugh Gilchrist, 51, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

A resident of Odum for the past twenty-nine years, Gabriel or “Gabe,” as he was affectionately known by many was born on April 4, 1974 in Columbus, Georgia to the late, Gary and Patty Martin Gilchrist.  He moved around frequently with his family in his younger years, graduating from Lakeside Preparatory School in Eufaula, Alabama in the Class of 1992.  Gabriel worked for over twenty-three years with Rayonier Advanced Materials eventually working his way up to the position of Shift Supervisor for the pulp mill.  He was humble and hardworking, generous and kind.  Gabriel was always willing to lend a hand to a person in need.  He was a longtime member of Flint Branch Baptist Church where he learned to love his neighbor as himself, following the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Gabriel was a hardcore Georgia Bulldogs fan who enjoyed fishing, trying new restaurants and rocking in his favorite rocking chair, but his favorite times were spent with the ones he loved the most, his beloved family.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Amy Horton Gilchrist of Odum; three children, Mallary Tyre and husband, Rodney of Odum, Logan Gilchrist and wife, Bailey of Perry, Oklahoma and Gabriel Jace Gilchrist of Odum; five grandchildren, Maddux Mosley, Gabriele Tyre, Avary James Tyre, Camden Tyre and Sadie Gilchrist; siblings, Jason Gilchrist and wife, Tracy of Phenix City, Alabama, Jake Gilchrist and wife, Bailey of Greensboro, North Carolina, Nichole Gilchrist of Florala, Alabama and James Gilchrist of North Carolina and his very special mother-in-law, Sheila Horton of Odum.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Flint Branch Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Hickox officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment will follow in Odum City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Gilchrist, Jake Gilchrist, Patrick Manning, Willie Priester, Jim Henderson and Charles Roberson.  Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Rayonier Advanced Materials.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Jace Gilchrist Scholarship Fund at Prime South Bank.
