Franceen Nathel McKee Webb, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia, Inc. and her loving family.
A fourth-generation Californian and former resident of Newport Beach and Palm Springs, California, Franceen was born in Stockton, California on August 22, 1928, the only child of the late Arthur Clyde and Albena Tealdi McKee. She spent her early years in Stockton and was a graduate of Stockton High School before continuing her education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and an elementary teaching credential from the University of the Pacific, where she proudly pledged Delta Gamma. Franceen worked briefly as an elementary school teacher before becoming a mother and putting her career to the side to raise her children. She dearly loved children and they, in turn, loved her just as much. Franceen enjoyed sharing her appreciation for art and reading with young minds. She had style and grace. Her manner was dignified, sweet, caring, and she was always a little bit of a character.
Franceen was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church in Stockton, California. She also served her community as a member of the Assistance League of Stockton and as an annual volunteer for the Delta Gamma Panhellenic Amblyopia Clinic/University of the Pacific, a Pink Lady at Dameron Hospital, and later as a council member for the Newport Harbor Art Museum in Newport Beach. She and her husband served as Board members and were patrons of the Stockton Symphony League, and attended concerts, their children in tow, regularly.
Very much a homebody, Franceen loved reading, history, wordplay, and crossword puzzles. She was a captivating storyteller, much to the delight of her children and grandchildren. She passed on intricate hand sewing skills taught her by her mother, and was passionate about family history and genealogy. Her home was filled with classical music throughout her life. She had a flair for interior design and a marvelous appreciation for whimsy; her home was always a place of beauty, warmth, and delight. She will be deeply remembered for the love and devotion she showed to so many, and for her sense of fun and her sense of humor, which she kept until the very end of her life.
In addition to her parents, her husband and love of her life, Donald Grant Webb, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Riggins (Ward Riggins, III), of Jesup, Georgia; son, Christopher Webb (Nancy) of Mountain View, California; former daughter-in-law, Claudia Webb (mother of Michael and Geoffrey); grandchildren Noelle Lykins (Sean); Michael Webb (Jenny); Geoffrey Webb (JeffreyTabisola); Emily Webb and Bryan Webb; and great-grandchildren Archer Webb, Serena Lee, and Elias Lykins.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
