Faye Smith Obituary

Faye Will Smith, 86, affectionately known as ”Mama Faye” passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

Mama Faye was born on March 4, 1933 in Wayne County to the late Frank and Annie B. Will.  She spent her early years in Syracuse, Ohio before relocating back to Jesup in the late 1940’s.  Mama Faye was a very talented musician and served as the organist and choir director for Epworth United Methodist Church for over twenty years where she was a charter member.  She also shared her love of music with students by giving private piano lessons for many years.  Mama Faye was actively involved in the Altamaha Children’s Theatre, the Miss Wayne County Program and the Wayne County High School Drama Department.  In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading.

In addition to her parents her husband of fifty-eight years, Leland Smith, Sr., grandson, Ralph Ward, Jr., great grandson, Nathanial Leland Jervis and nephew, Jim Baker  all preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Tandy Smith of Jesup; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Daniel Mugerditchian, Karen and Michael Harrell  and Sherri and Joseph Hickox all of Jesup; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Baker of Jesup; one half-brother, Jim Will of Point Pleasant, WV; sister-in-law and brother-in-law,  Nancy and Harold Guerry of Charleston, SC and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Rhonda Smith of Waynesville, and fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren and daughter of the heart, Andrea York of Jesup  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.   

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Epworth United Methodist Church with Reverends Garth Duke-Barton, Jarrett Coleman and Jason Martin  officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. 

Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the choir,  members of the Care Sunday School Class and Susie Bowen Circle all of  Epworth United Methodist Church,

Private interment services will be held in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
