Eugene Poole

Eugene Poole, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Eugene was born on January 15, 1949. He worked several jobs throughout his lifetime including positions at Waynline, Wayne County School System, Winn Dixie and Wayne Memorial Hospital.  Eugene loved Wayne County High School Yellow Jackets football and baseball.   He also enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves on television in his spare time.  Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Poole; mother, Bertie Poole McDaniel; two brothers, Dewitt Poole and Cecil Poole and sister, Betty Kersey.

Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Evelyn Griffis Poole of Jesup and although Eugene never had any children, he had four special nieces, Patricia Faalevao, Barbara Long, Nita Teston and Missy Dotimas, and all the children that grew up in the churches he attended felt like in some way, they also belonged to Eugene; also surviving are brothers, Lewis Poole and wife, Vess of Pierson, Florida, Robert Poole and wife, Penny of Burtonville, Maryland and Herman Poole of Jesup and one sister, Ruby Edenfield and husband, James of Jesup.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Unity Church of God with Pastor Calvin Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment services will be held privately in the Jesup City Cemetery at a later date.

Active pallbearers will be Hagan Anderson, Robbie Denison, Johnny Campbell, Kevin Kilpatrick, Chris Lynn, Jeremy Haas, Stacy Orvin, Ted Smith and Josh Goss.  Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Unity Church of God.
