Dean Tyre Obituary

Laura Dean Shetters Tyre, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

A resident of Wayne County for nearly fifty-five years and former resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Dean was born on August 27, 1938 in Sherwood, Tennessee to the late Richard and Judy Pack Shetters.  She was a homemaker and beautician who was fiercely supportive of her family.  Dean had a sweet and caring nature.  She was a faithful member of Anderson Drive Baptist Church for over forty years and was also a longtime member and past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jesup Shrine Club.  Dean remained active throughout her life, participating in BRAG, riding bicycles across the state of Georgia with her late husband.  She enjoyed gardening and she truly loved flowers.  In her spare time, she enjoyed entertaining her friends and family, many times over a cup of coffee on the back porch sometimes even making her famous biscuits for her lucky guests to enjoy.  In addition to her parents, her husband, James A. “Hoss” Tyre; daughter, Terri Johnson; grandson, Caleb Tyre; brothers, James, Joe, Gene and Richard Shetters and sisters, Mary Trussell, Bibb Durden and Johnnie Jones, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two sons, Jim Tyre and wife, Tammie of Waycross and Joe Tyre and wife, Heather of Jesup; two sisters, Bonnie Wise and Joy ‘Tiny” Kirkus of Yulee, Florida; one brother, Everett “Hutch” Shetters and wife, Sonja of Waycross;  son-in-law, Gary Johnson of Waycross; grandchildren, Brandy Murray and fiancé, Michael James of Waycross, Colbi Sellers and husband, Jamey of Waycross, Mandee Waters of Jacksonville and Kennedy and Jameson NeSmith, both of Jesup and great grandchildren, Andrew Murray, Hagen Seitz, Arleigh Sellers and Macon Sellers.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Dustin Cribbs officiating.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
