Darlene Marie (Romeira) Prekop

Darlene Marie Romeira Prekop, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by her loving family.

Darlene was born on October 28, 1955 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late, Alexander and Edis Spradley Romeira.   She spent her early years in Jesup before relocating to Brandon, Florida, where she lived fifteen years and worked for Brandon Printing, Inc.  After relocating back to Jesup, Darlene retired and enjoyed a slower pace of life, staying home and taking care of her children and grandchildren.  She was a longtime practicing Catholic but had been attending the Unity Church of God for the past several years.  In her spare time, Darlene enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, working crossword puzzles and watching game shows on television.  In addition to her parents, her late husband, Robert Prekop; daughter, Michelle Moody and three sisters, Rose Marie Nail, Mary Aline Thompson and Pauline Natalie Manning, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her companion of sixteen years, Cecil Aspinwall of Jesup; son, Charles Lanier of Jesup; sister, Udell Marion (Peter) of Valrico, Florida; grandchildren, Lexus Lanier, Wesley Lanier, Warren Lanier, Tyler Smith,  Chase Smith and great grandchildren, Levi and Weslynn.  A host of nieces, nephews cousins and extended family members also survive including special nieces, Marie Goodrich (Gary), Victoria West (Bill) and Jennifer Kriegbaum (Steve) and nephew, Kerry Marion.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Joe Manning officiating. 

Interment will follow in Manningtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Warren and Wesley Lanier, Bill West, Jeremiah Spradley, Brooker Wilson and Tim Sloan.
