Clare Scott, a lifelong adventurer and free spirit, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Jesup, Georgia. She was 77 years old.
Born on February 20, 1948, in Maltby, England to Michael and Eileen Meehan, Clare grew up with a deep love of learning and exploration. She studied drama and English at Digby Stuart College in London. Clare taught in England, Spain, Cuba, and Colorado, and delighted in sharing her knowledge of the world with her students.
While living in Spain, Clare met the love of her life, Dwayne (Scotty) Scott. Their life together was filled with adventure, spanning continents and cultures, living in Cuba, Colorado, and Georgia, before retiring to Panama for an adventure filled 13 years. They returned to the U.S. three years ago, settling in Georgia.
Clare had a passion for discovery that never faded. She loved to travel without a fixed plan, often finding herself at a local church, museum, or historic site, absorbing the stories and beauty around her. A voracious reader, a beachcomber who treasured her growing shell collection, and an avid birdwatcher who could name countless species, Clare found wonder in the world every day.
Clare is preceded in death by her beloved husband Scotty, and her brother Mike. She is survived by her children Kirsty Antosy and fiancée Dave Venne, Aelish Brooks and husband Noah, Bridget Scott, Duncan Scott and wife Sara, her sister Catherine Barnes, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever remember her laughter, warmth, and unshakable spirit.
Known for her generosity and vibrant personality, Clare could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She lit up every room and lived life on her own terms with curiosity, kindness, and courage.
Her family will celebrate her life on June 21st on Tybee Island at the beach. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Clare’s memory by taking a walk on the beach, reading a good book, or watching the birds in your own backyard just as she would have loved.
