Cheryl Ross Helbing, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Harborview Health and Rehabilitation in Jesup after an extended illness under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
A resident of Hinesville since 1974 and former resident of Brunswick and Atlanta, Georgia, Cheryl was born on October 14, 1944 in Eastman, Georgia to the late, John Luther and Charity Smith Ross. She spent her early years in Eastman and graduated from Dodge County High School before continuing her education at Middle Georgia College. Cheryl relocated several times before settling in Hinesville and beginning a career as a Paralegal. She worked for several local law firms over the course of her career including, Gary Sinrich, Kemp and Ratcliffe and lastly, Jones, Osteen and Jones, where she worked as a receptionist until her retirement. Cheryl was a member of First Baptist Church of Hinesville. She enjoyed live entertainment including musicals and symphonies, traveling, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching her beloved Georgia Bulldogs on television.
Survivors include her two sons, Martin Ross of Hinesville, Georgia and Thomas B. Funderburk and wife, Melissa, serving the U.S. Navy in Hawaii; daughter, Monica Burke of Seattle, Washington; brother, Benny Ray Ross and wife, Larianne of Colonel’s Island, Georgia and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Catherine Ross and Logan and Mia Funderburk. One great grandson and numerous extended family members also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Hinesville, 220 Memorial Dr. Hinesville, GA 31313.
