Charles Tyre, Sr. Obituary

MSG Charles Emory Tyre, Sr., U.S. Army Retired

MSG Charles Emory Tyre, Sr., U.S. Army Retired, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Charles was born on November 29, 1928 in Odum, Georgia to the late Isaac and Evelyn Estelle Tyre.  A country boy by birth, he spent his days with his childhood best friends, Doug Daniel and Ben Pearce.  When he was barely old enough, he joined the U.S. Army to serve our country and retired more than twenty years later as a Master Sargent.  MSG Tyre’s service to our country included war time during the Korean Conflict and two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He and his family traveled the United States and the World, serving in numerous different installations including appointments in Hawaii and Germany.  In his later days of service, MSG Tyre worked as a military instructor and was proud of the fact that he had scored the highest of any person in the United States on his MOS Evaluation Test.  After his retirement from the Army, Mr. Tyre worked for the State Prison in Odum for a short period before beginning a second career from which he would retire at Plant Hatch in Baxley.  Charles was truly a “jack of all trades” and in his spare time, he enjoyed remodeling, woodworking and restoring old cars.  In addition to his parents, his wife of forty-five years, Willene Daniel Tyre; his daughter, Fran Tyre; his son, Robert “Bobby” Tyre; his brothers, Bobby, James, Glynn, Wayne and Billy Tyre and his sister, Josephine Ahl  preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Charles E. Tyre, Jr. “Chuck” and wife, Janet of Jesup and grandchildren, Kara Deleon of Port Richey, Florida, Jodi Lewis and husband, Keith, Whitney Elliott and husband, Mark,  Jace Tyre, Charles E. Tyre, III “Charlie”  and wife, Chelsea all of Jesup and J.D. Tyre and wife, Alisha of Odum.  A special niece, Diane Crawford also survives along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Clayton Dowd officiating.
