Charles Wayne Smith, Sr.,   passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.

A native and lifelong resident of Brunswick and Sterling, Charles was born on March 15, 1945 to the late John Pershing Smith, Sr. and Lena Inell Watts Smith.  He was a concrete finisher by trade who enjoyed spending time in the woods, hunting and fishing, when he wasn’t working.  Charles was at home in the woods and could survive with only the shirt on his back.  In addition to his parents, his brothers, Andrew Cleveland Smith, Emory Tiller Smith and Larry Donald Smith, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Charles Wayne Smith, Jr. and wife, Kim of Jesup; brother, John Smith of Conyers, Georgia; grandson, Dylan Ryan Smith of Atlanta and former wife and mother to his son,  Linda Dixon and husband, Rufus of Jesup.  Numerous extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. James Carter officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service.
