Carmen Velez Wicker, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Candler Hospital in Savannah after a lengthy illness.
A resident of Springfield, Georgia for the past three years and former resident of Darien, Georgia and Fernandina Beach, Florida, Carmen was born on January 9, 1944 to the late Carlos and Salvadora Ocasio Velez in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was a dietician by trade, working for many years at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia. Carmen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who gave so much to those around her. She worked as a substitute teacher in Spanish Classrooms and was a devoted Christian woman who loved God with all her heart. Her adventurous spirit led her to learn to fly small aircraft and get her pilot’s license and she was a long time member of the Glory Worship Center in Darien. In her spare time, Carmen enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her beloved family. In addition to her parents, her sister, Lydia and two brothers, Porferrio and Carlos, Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, Carey Anderson Wicker of Darien, Georgia; two daughters, Jessica Wicker of Darien, Georgia and Venina Wicker of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Tabitha, Colabella and Christopher; sister, Alice and great grandchildren, Rosabella, Lillian, Jasmine, Mary and Scarlett.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Glory Worship Center in Darien.
