Cardwell Richard Gage, 79, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Dick,” passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2023 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Dick was born on November 27, 1943 in Hampton, Virginia to the late Cardwell and Jane Leone Gage. He began his career in public service at a young age when he took a position as a lifeguard. His love of people and willingness to help those in need made him successful in his work and he began to advance in his career. Dick worked as a firefighter, and later, pursued a career in law enforcement. He began working as a Police Officer locally and retired many years later as a Federal Marshall with twenty years of service. Dick enjoyed wood carving and volunteered his time and talents frequently at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. He also loved sailing and being on the water. In addition to his parents, his brother, Thomas Nelson Gage and sister, Pat Smith, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie June Gage; daughter, Renee Niehaus and husband, Brett all of Jesup, Georgia. His special friend and caregiver, John Shuman (Regina) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
Private memorial services will be held.
