Bonell (Farrow) Lewis

Bonell F. Lewis, 97, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Coastal Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Bonell was born May 1, 1924 in Colquitt County, Georgia, to the late Thomas Anderson Farrow and Bessie Lou Newsome Mobley, and had spent most of her life in Wayne County. She had a strong work ethic beginning early in life, telling stories of picking cotton and working in the fields from sunrise to sunset. She worked previously as a presser for Vann's Laundry, later retiring from factory work.

Bonell had attended Gardi Church of God in her earlier years, and confessed being a Christian. She was a selfless person, devoting herself to her home and her family. Bonell enjoyed working in her flowers and canning fruits and vegetables harvested from her garden. She could often times be found watching western movies and sipping a coke which HAD to be in the small glass bottles. Bonell was country by far as her pronunciation of words often proved. They may have not always been grammatically correct and sometimes they were rather comical, but that was the Bonell we loved!

In addition to her parents, her husband, Spencer "Bunt" Lewis, three children, Dean Nettles, Shirley Ann Reddish, and Steve Clark and several brothers and sisters, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Weaver and husband, Walter of South Carolina and Glenda Fletcher and husband, Bruce of Michigan; son-in-law, Ralph Nettles; daughter-in-law, Earlene Clark, both of Jesup; brother, Clarence Mobley of Hortense; sister, Ermine Whitley of Jesup; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Rooster Manning and Ralph Nettles officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Odum City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Darwin Lewis, Jr., Rooster Manning, Liston Wainwright, Josh Goss, Jerry Weaver and Michael Scott.
