Anita Parker Gordon, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of South Georgia, Inc.
A resident of Jesup for the past sixty-seven years, Anita was born on October 11, 1937 in Ludowici, Georgia to the late Daniel and Katie Baxter Parker. She graduated from Ludowici High School, class of 1955 and soon after, on December 9, 1956, married her late husband, James Ray Gordon, and the two soon relocated to Jesup. Anita worked for the American National Bank, now known as Bank of America, for many years where she retired as Vice President of Operations. She served her community in numerous benevolent organizations including the Jesup Jaycettes and the PTA, having served as President of both organizations. Anita also volunteered as a Pink Lady with the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was an active member of First Baptist Church, Jesup for over sixty-seven years where she attended the Laverne Bennett Sunday School class and had worked in the nursery for over fifty years. In her spare time, Anita enjoyed flower gardening and working puzzles of all kinds. She was also known by her friends and family to be a very competitive card player. In addition to her parents and her husband, her son, James Ray Gordon, Jr. “Jay;” one sister, Marinelle Chestnut and two brothers, Elmer and Wilmer Parker, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her two daughters, Karen Gordon of Jesup and Pam Gordon Hires and husband, George of Jesup; grandchildren, Joseph and Amber Gordon and Gracen, Addison and Jameson Gordon and their mother, Wendy Gordon Creager; sisters-in-law, Lillian Simmons of Ludowici and Robbie Gordon of Lumber City and special caregiver Sandra Gomez and husband Francisco. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church, Jesup with Pastor Brooks Haddock and David Simmons officiating.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be David Simmons, Bobby Chestnut, Frank Parker, Dale Simmons, Rob Gordon and Jeffrey Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Laverne Bennett Sunday School Class.
