Alford Bruce Woodard, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family under the care of Heartland Hospice.
A resident of Wayne County for over sixty-five years, Bruce was born on November 14, 1928 in Cordele, Georgia to the late Henry and Mattie Dickerson Woodard. He served his country in the United States Army before returning home where he worked as a machinist at Rayonier until his retirement. Bruce was an avid golfer, bowler and knife maker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing fast pitch softball. Bruce was a member of the Jesup Elks Lodge #2133 B.P.O.E. for over thirty years. In addition to his parents, his wife, Betty Ann Woodard, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his three sons, Bruce Woodard, Jr. and wife, Onda of Jesup, Walter Woodard and wife, Vikki of Fort Mills, South Carolina and Mike Woodard and wife, Cindy of Jesup; ten grandchildren, Erica Wilkins and husband, Dennis, Dylan Woodard, Dixie Aljehni, Dustin Woodard, Shellie Wood, Taylor Eden and husband, John, Tyler Woodard, Grayson Woodard, Jo Guzan and husband, Steve and Jordan Woodard and fourteen great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dylan Woodard, Grayson Woodard, Austin Crews, Dennis Wilkins, Gary Parks and Fred Fender.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jesup Elks Lodge # 2133 B.P.O.E. and the members of the 12:30 golf group at Pine Forest Country Club.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Jill Poppell, Ida Alexander, Brenda Bacon, Melissa Spencer and especially his granddaughter, Erica Wilkins for all the loving care they provided to Bruce during his final days.
