Margaret Lewis McTyeire Madray

Margaret Lewis McTyeire Madray, 80, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the GoldenLivingCenter under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.



Margaret Lewis McTyeire Madray, known as Peggy, was born in St. Petersburg, Florida September 7, 1932 to Lewis C. McTyeire, and Lolita Parker McTyeire. After loosing her mom at the age of three, she moved to Bessemer, Alabama. She later lost her Father as a young teenager, she was also preceded in death by her loving sister Ann Marie Nix; and she moved to Jesup where she was raised by Frank and Annie Breen. Mrs. Breen was affectionately known as Grandma, by everyone. She had also raised Peggy's Mother and Aunt after the early loss of their mother. Annie Breen instilled Presbyterianism, and love of the Lord in Peggy. She was voted as one of the prettiest, by her senior class, and the best dancer. She married George W. Madray in 1951. She purposed in her mind that she would be married until death, and she was, for over 60 years. As a new homemaker she began raising children the following year, with the birth of her first son. They moved to Jesup in 1954, where they started a pest control business. She worked part time from within the home. She would answer and sell accounts, then roundup her husband, and direct him to service them. After nearly 50 years, the business had spread throughout Southeast Georgia. After her husband’s retirement, and sale of the business, she went to work at her son Greg's dental office. She worked first as a dental assistant, and then as a receptionist, where she "cracked the whip" not only during the week, but on the weekend as well. She lined up the patients, dismissing some, and dared any "pill head" to try and get drugs on the weekend. She also traveled regularly to Brunswick and helped her eldest son in different capacities until she could no longer work - due to scoliosis advancement. She later developed hemolytic anemia, and was in and out of the hospital on occasions. In July of this year she entered Golden Living Nursing home, and entered into hospice care; she said, "I am just tired and worn out." She did not rust out-she wore out. She is survived by her husband George W. Madray Sr., a retired pest control operator, and business man; a son, George W. Madray Jr., a dentist, and cosmeceutical manufacturer in Brunswick, GA; a son, Robert (Shirley) McTyeire Madray, a pest control operator, and businessman in Brunswick, and St. Mary's GA; and a son, Gregory (Robin) Alan Madray, a dentist in Jesup, GA; and a businessman, land developer, and farmer across SE GA. She is also survived by her nieces, Lita (Mario) Morales of Jesup, GA and Linda (Dail) Rentz of Hiawassee, GA; also four granddaughters and one grandson.



Many have said that God "broke the mold" after making Peggy! She loved all the kids, and they loved her. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved to gather the children around and teach about Bible characters with her flannel board. Being involved with the PTA - she was a grade mother. Being involved with the cub scouts - she was a den mother. She had become a mother to many, to the point it made her eldest son jealous. He said that he wanted other kids to do things with their mothers. She replied that their mothers worked outside the home, and did not have the luxury that she did, of being a stay at home mom! She would design games requiring skill and competition; and constantly took kids on trips where there were activities of all kinds - horseback riding, camping, swimming, and playing sports of all kinds. She also poured her life into her grand children. She built doll houses for her grand daughters, and even took them skinny dipping. She spent so much time with her only grandson, who was the only grandchild raised in Jesup, that she nearly confused him of believing that he had two moms-she would even spank him at needed times.



She was sharp minded, quick witted, determined, persistent, and unflappable. She would have had more friends if she could only have just compromised with the truth. She could nearly work you to death. One time after receiving somewhat of a blood transfusion in the hospital, she was a lot slower. She complained that they must have given her some iron poor blood, to which her sons remarked, "Praise the LORD!!!" Yes, the grass did not grow under her feet, and she saw to it as much as possible that it would not grow under the feet of her three sons, or her husband's feet either! She was much like the Proverbs 31 woman. Yes, she was still raising three sons and a husband when she departed for greener pastures to work in. Even though she is the new kid in the mansion, surely she will soon be busy about working with the Lord, preparing places for her three sons and husband. For now, she is enjoying some much needed rest, while dancing upon the streets of gold!
