William Roy "Bill" Mathis

William Roy “Bill” Mathis, 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.

A resident of Wayne County for nearly sixty years, Bill was born on June 14, 1952 in Tifton, Georgia to the late Joe B. and Ouida Mills Mathis.  His attention to detail and strong desire to do the job right made him a master of his trade, carpentry, which he pursued all his life.  Bill was a good father who took time to pass along the skills he had learned to his sons.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and working on things around the house.  He was a faithful member of the Unity Church of God for nearly twenty years where he attended Vic Drawdy’s Sunday School Class. 

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Mathis of Jesup; children, Eric Mathis, Shanna Martin, Travis Martin, and Desiree Mathis all of Jesup and BillieJoe Mauney and husband, Joshua of Brunswick; brother, Jackie Mathis of Colorado; sisters, Jonelle McGauley, Dot Cameron and husband, Bull and Ann Grantham and husband, Skip all of Jesup, Debby Mathis Davis of Brunswick and Pam Harter and husband, Foy of Screven amd eleven grandchildren.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Unity Church of God with Reverend Calvin Anderson officiating. 

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Hooper, Andrew McGauley, Matthew Gest, Chris Brannen, Greg Hudgins, Blake Manning, Clayton Gest and Weston Gest.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Vic Drawdy’s Sunday School Class of the Unity Church of God.

Interment will be in Jesup City Cemetery.
