Vera Chadwick Moore

Vera Chadwick Moore, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Vera was born on December 30, 1929 to the late Steed and Bertha Strickland Chadwick.  She was a switch board operator by trade who worked for many years with Southern Bell and Rayonier.   Vera was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church for many years where she was active in the Women’s Ministry.  Her caring and nurturing personality made her a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who devoted herself to her family.  She was an expert seamstress who fashioned clothing for herself, her children and her grandchildren to wear on many occasions and it seemed as though there was nothing she couldn’t create with fabric. Vera worked hard to make the lives of those she loved the best it could be and she always put the needs of others before her own.

In addition to her parents, her husband of sixty-five years, Richard Carlton Moore, Sr. and her siblings, Glynn Chadwick, Carroll Chadwick, Terry Chadwick, James Chadwick, Bernice Mallard and Sarah Chadwick all preceded her in death.       

Survivors include one son, Richard C. Moore, Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Odum and their children Carlie Waters and husband, Dylan and Jena Brown and husband, Jonathan and one daughter, Debbie Carter and husband, Horace of Jesup and their children, Lauren and Cheston; sister, Geraldine Bridges of Jesup and brother, M.L. Chadwick and wife, Jane of Odum.    Three great grandsons, Jhett, Jaxen and Waylan and a host of extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Stanley Todd officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Chadwick, Chad Chadwick, Jamey Chadwick, Cheston Carter, Dylan Waters and Jonathan Brown.  Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hospice of South Georgia.
